A word from the Editor
A s the final touches are being made on this report, the rain is falling steadily in Israel. The forecast calls for a week of heavy rains and possibly even snow in higher areas. This is what we pray for in the amidah. From Shmini Atzeret on, we insert the phrase "Mashiv ha-ruach u-morid ha-geshem" ("One who makes the wind blow, and makes the rain descend") into our prayers. Since rain only falls in Israel between Sukkot and Pesach, each drop is critical and appreciated here and we relish in daily reports of the rising waters of the Sea of Galilee. It's a time to remember that although everything looks dreary and the leaves may be bare, the sap in the trees is rising and life will begin anew again soon. That is why we celebrate Tu B'shvat with enthusiasm.

Things are far from dreary in the Masorti world. Reports from our kehillot, NOAM, Marom and camps in Argentina all point to a flurry of activity, energy and creativity. You can continue to show your support for the Masorti Movement around the world by registering for MERCAZ. This is a critical year to do so as the next World Zionist Congress will take place in June.
